With the Libs wanting to reopen Nauru's "Camp Abbott" and Labor looking to build a resort in Timor, I have delved into the book of old good ideas, and suggest a much better "Pacific Solution". Having already excised numerous islands from the migration zone, why not continue and excise the main island, and at the same time, erase Australia from all navigational charts and maps, which will mean that the people smugglers will no longer be able to find this already overpopulated country (try peak hour in Broome- seriously horrendous!! however could we cope with more...). This would offer the ultimate Pacific Solution, where asylum seekers, no longer being able to chart a course to Australia, would wander the Pacific Ocean for years trying to find landfall. Take that to the electorate!!

The ideal solution to offshore processing

The grounding of the Chinese coal carrier Sheng Neng on the Great Barrier Reef has provided the Australian authorities with the ideal offshore processing centre for "illegal immigrants", now that Christmas Island is approaching its full capacity. Copenhagen came to the news in December with a fanfare and departed with a whimper.

Getting "behind the news", the failure of the negotiations stems from all the delegates being too polite. Being gentlemen (and women) of good breeding, each country's delegates offered others to step through the "firm targets" door first, and with so many people trying to hold the door open, no-one could enter! This demonstrates that real leadership requires people to let go of polite conventions, and push in! Step over the others, and say, "hey, if no-one wants to take the lead, we will". Alas, not for moment, so, for the time being, each country and mouth the platitudes of how much they are doing without any one showing real commitment.

Finally- how do you decrease greenhouse gas emissions? Fly 15,000 delegates to Copenhagen for a fortnight, and fly the back home again! So much so that he has spoken his thoughts on the Libs alternate carbon reduction plan- energy efficiency (please turn off your computer now) and better land management (less trees chopped, more planted). So if we all change our behaviour (cos we have such a good track record of that...) and plant more trees (but wait,,, don't they also cause bush fires??), we can reduce our greenhouse gas emissions at no cost.... Oh,, and throw in some nuclear power as well. Why has this not been thought of before! He is a great man, our Tony.... So here is Tony leading by example, planting out Manly beach, thereby preventing sea level rise and beach erosion!

For the Greater Glory of Abbott(or as I prefer in latin, ad maiorem abbott gloriam)

The McWong ETS fails the taste-test

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 297px; height: 320px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_IMQdtcHFpNs/Sxbv-BERXcI/AAAAAAAAAA4/gxkibc8_0iA/s320/McWong+ETS.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5410775851049508290" />
Well, what a week it has been. Abbott is now leader of the opposition, and Bishop is standing by her third leader (still smiling and staying silent by their side..... starting think that she could be a bit of a political black widow). So now the Coalition has blocked the ETS legislation..... so what went wrong for the government? As my little sketch shows, I think the genetically modified McWong ETS tried to accommodate too many tastes and ended up being unpalatable....too much meat (carbon) for the greens and not enough meat for the right. And for Abbott's early musings on an alternate carbon reduction plan, based on more trees and energy efficiency,,,, got a drawing to do!!

Libs in turmoil

As this is posted, the Libs are in their party room to resolve their leadership, or policy, tensions.
